Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PMA)

Name:Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PMA)

Details

Chinese Name: Propylene Glycol Methyl Ether Acetate

Chinese Synonyms: Propylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether Acetate; 1-Methoxy-2-propyl Acetate; Propylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether Acetate; Methoxyisopropyl Acetate; Propylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether Acetate/1-Methoxy-2-propanol Acetate; 1,2-Propylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether Acetate; 1-Methoxy-2-acetoxypropane

Molecular Formula Characteristics

Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA) is a high-grade solvent. Its molecule contains both ether bonds and carbonyl groups, with the carbonyl groups forming an ester structure, and also contains alkyl groups. The same molecule contains both nonpolar and polar functional groups, which both mutually restrict and repel each other while each playing its inherent role. Therefore, it has a certain solubility for both nonpolar and polar substances.

Applications
It is a high-performance, low-toxicity, high-grade industrial solvent with strong solubility for both polar and nonpolar substances. It is suitable for use as a solvent for various polymers in high-grade coatings and inks, including amino methyl esters, vinyl esters, polyesters, cellulose acetates, alkyd resins, acrylic resins, epoxy resins, and nitrocellulose. Among these, propylene glycol methyl ether propionate is the best solvent in coatings and inks, suitable for unsaturated polyesters, polyurethane resins, acrylic resins, and epoxy resins.
