Chemical Properties
Uses
Mainly used in the manufacture of polyester, polyester resin, hygroscopic agents, plasticizers, surfactants, synthetic fibers, cosmetics, and explosives. It is also used as a solvent in dyes and inks, in the formulation of engine antifreeze, a gas dehydrating agent, and in the manufacture of resins. It can also be used as a wetting agent in cellophane, fibers, leather, and adhesives. It can produce synthetic resin PET, fiber-grade PET (polyester fiber), and bottle-grade PET for making mineral water bottles, etc. It can also produce alkyd resins, glyoxal, etc., which are also used as antifreeze. Besides being used as an antifreeze in automobiles, it is also used for industrial cooling, generally referred to as a refrigerant. It can also be used as a condensate, similar to water.
