Physical Properties

Colorless, transparent liquid with a fruity aroma. Volatile; miscible with most organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, and ethers. Soluble in water at 20°C (2.9% by weight).

Chemical Properties

Flammable; its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air. It can ignite and explode upon contact with open flames or high heat; it reacts violently with oxidizers. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread a considerable distance at lower levels, where it can be ignited by an open flame, causing a flashback. Combustion (decomposition) products: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and water.

Applications

1. Mainly used as a solvent for coatings, printing inks, etc., and also a commonly used dehydrating agent in industry, an extractant in pharmaceutical production, and a flavoring component;

2. Mainly used as an extraction solvent for pharmaceuticals, a solvent for coatings, a solvent for printing inks, and a solvent for chemical reactions. This product has a fruity aroma, and after dilution, it has an apple aroma. It is naturally found in pineapple, pear, cocoa, etc., and is a permitted edible flavoring agent according to Chinese GB2760-86. It is mainly used as a solvent for formulating rum flavorings and fruit-type flavorings.
