Properties:

White spirit, scientifically known as n-heptane, has the structural formula CH3(CH2)5CH3 and a molecular weight of 100.21. It is a colorless, transparent liquid. Relative density (20℃/4℃) > 0.6594, freezing point -90.6℃, boiling point 98.4℃, flash point -4℃, ignition point 204℃, refractive index 1.38512, viscosity (20℃) 0.4 mPa·s, solubility parameter δ = 7.4. It is miscible with diethyl ether, acetone, chloroform, benzene, and petroleum ether. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol. It is extremely flammable; its vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 1.2%-6.7% (vol). It has low toxicity and possesses irritant and anesthetic effects. The maximum permissible concentration in air is 1600 mg/m3 (or 0.04%). It is used as a solvent and diluent. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Protect from fire and sunlight.

Applications:

Because of its high fat solubility and volatility, as well as its strong detergency, it is commonly used as a cleaning agent in industry and is a widely used chemical in industries such as hardware, electronics, printing, and shoemaking.
